The ‘TY Standard’ collection is minimalist, versatile and highly functional, as all the elements stack densely. The collection is designed as a series of items without predetermined functions, and the rectangular and round shapes in either matt or shiny finishes offer endless styling possibilities. The Palace plate is the centrepiece of the collection that adds a storytelling accent to the overall stringent expression.

The crushed local stone from Arita makes the porcelain extremely strong and allows for the design of thin and elegant plates that stack almost infinitely high. The glazed version of ‘TY Standard’ is dishwasher proof, heat- and stain-resistant, microwave safe, but not oven-safe.

Teruhiro Yanagihara is Head of Design at 1616/arita japan that came to life in 2012. The 1616/arita japan porcelain comes from crushed stone that is specific to the village of Arita, where China has been manufactured for 400 years. Today 1616/arita japan is a renowned brand working with some of the most significant designers in the world. Teruhiro Yanagihara, being one of them, designed their first collection ‘TY Standard’.

Teruhiro Yanagihara studied design at Osaka University of Art and established his studio in Osaka in 2002 with the vision of exploring the boundaries between tradition and renewal, linking modern technology and the demands of industrial production with a robust Japanese sense of aesthetics and spirituality.
