WHAT MAKES A B CORP?
B Corp is a holistic sustainability certification that assesses the overall impact of a company rather than simply evaluating a product or service. The certification is based on a rigorous assessment of a company’s impact on workers, customers, community and environment and its governance, which results in a verified score. The B Impact Assessment comprises 250-plus questions that give a 360-degree view of the company. It is done every three years and is a dynamic tool.
To achieve certification a company must score 80 points or more out of a total of 200. Skagerak was first certified in 2017 with a score of 82,2 points. From 2017 to 2020 Skagerak’s score improved significantly to 102,2 points.
HOW WE HAVE CHANGED
Since joining B Corp in 2017 our eyes have been opened to myriad ways that we can raise our performance. Big or small, they each add up. We launched Reclassic and Rent, two circular initiatives that help to ensure the longevity of our furniture. We raised the share of FSC-certified wood in our production to 93%.
Smaller changes include switching to a greener electricity provider, implementing comprehensive waste management systems and introducing paid volunteer days for our staff.
